Transition Monitoring
Introducing Transition in the Herd app: A new way to analyze how groups of animals perform around dry-off and calving!
Read this article to dive into the details immediately.
The transition period is one of the most critical periods in a cow’s lactation cycle. With Transition in the Herd app, you can view average eating and rumination behavior before and after dry-off or calving and compare this with relevant performance indicators.
Analyzing transition behavior
Use the group selection to select the animals you want to analyze. You can select animals based on lactation group, time period, or calving group when seasonal calving is used.
The behavior chart shows average eating and rumination behavior from 20 days before until 40 days after dry-off or calving. This helps you spot changes in behavior around the transition event, such as a drop in eating or rumination.
Comparing groups
To compare transition performance, select multiple groups or time periods. Each group is shown in its own color, making it easier to compare differences between groups.
When comparing multiple groups, you can switch between eating and rumination behavior to focus on the data you want to compare.
Viewing effects after the transition event (coming soon)
The Effects after transition event section shows related KPIs for the selected animals. Depending on whether you analyze dry-off or calving, this includes insights such as urgent health issues, days until first heat, cycling rate, average days dry, and animals that left the herd.
With Transition Monitoring, you can better understand transition performance and identify where management can be improved.
